The fifth Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival, billed as the largest fest of its kind in North America, takes place all over the city Jan. The Chicago International Puppet Festival was founded to establish Chicago as a center for the advancement of the art of puppetry. This all produces a dizzying dive into the inexplicable mysteries of life both through Melville´s irresistible narrative, and the incredible artistry of the puppetry troupe Plexus Polaire. In this Chicago premiere – direct from France and Norway – the show features seven actors, 50 puppets, video projections on smoke, an octobass, and a whale-sized whale. Herman Melville’s monster work of literature is also a monster in puppetry experience.
